Retirements

Please note that psychologist Alan Jenkins, author of Becoming Ethical: Parallel Political Journey with Men who Abuse, and narrative therapists and counsellors Rob Hall, Shona Russell and Maggie Carey have all retired and gone camping. NADA and Narrative Practices Adelaide have morphed into Adelaide Narrative Therapy Collective.

In Remembrance

We remember our dear colleague and co-founder Terry Callahan who passed from complications with cancer in 2023.

We also remember Adelaide family therapist, Michael White, co-developer of Narrative Therapy, friend and mentor whose therapy, writing and teaching was prolific and influential from the 1980s until his death in 2008.

In 2007, before his death, Michael White established Adelaide Narrative Therapy Centre with Maggie Carey, Shona Russell and Rob Hall. After his death this was continued as Narrative Practices Adelaide. Developing from the Narrative Practices reading group with Maggie, Rob, Shona, Sue Mann, and others — with support from Peggy Sax in USA Reauthoring Teaching — members and colleagues Terry Callahan and Sonja Baram endeavoured to continue and progress the intentions of these developments across our own work at the collective.

Global Reach

Narrative Therapy co-developer David Epston can be found in New Zealand and here: narrativeapproaches.com and here: Journal of Contemporary Narrative Therapy.

Adelaide Narrative Therapy Collective is not affiliated with the Dulwich Centre, although many of our wonderful colleagues are.

"The problem is not an 'obstacle'; it is the surpassing of the obstacle, a pro-jection."

— Deleuze & Guattari, A Thousand Plateaus (p. 362)

We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional custodians of the Adelaide Plains and respect their enduring connection to the spirit and soul of this place. Though imperfect as allies, we strive to keep the past and present lived experience of Australia's First Nations people in the forefront of our minds during every conversation.
